“The rise in the popularity of computing may well be a response to increasing awareness of the role of technologies such as AI, as well as strong desire from students to develop what they see as future-proof skills……”
This is a quote from @Rashik Parmar, chief executive of @BCS, The Chartered Institute for IT, and it’s one of three we’d like to pull out from this @BBC article.
An insightful piece, it discusses the potential influence that the rise in artificial intelligence has had on career choices for school leavers across the UK and it reveals that pupils are choosing computing courses in record numbers (according to @UCAS).
The other two quotes we’d like to highlight out are:
• “Teenagers in the UK know that AI will change the world forever; it shouldn’t surprise us to see this soaring demand for computing degrees”, from @Vanessa Wilson of @University Alliance, an association of British universities.
• And @Chris Derrick, the deputy headteacher at Kelvinside Academy, Glasgow, who also says within the piece that pupils applying for computing courses now are all “digital natives” who have “honed and developed these skills from a young age using powerful tech every day”.
Students already recognise that AI will play a pivotal role in shaping their future, and they seek to be at the forefront of this transformative wave by embracing a tech-driven world to position themselves with the right digital skills to embrace the challenges and rewards of the future job landscape.
